Third Millennium Activities for the Family

Hey!  Here's an idea!  Why not make this first year of the new millennium (and the first year of the 21st Century) a time of:

What a deal huh?  We've got some themes to get your creative juices flowing feel free to expand on these ideas and combine others to make your own unique celebrations.

 Celebrating the Family:

A family reunion.  Take a picture and put it in your time capsule!  Don't have a time capsule?  Here's how to build one!

Family Nights- Take an evening (or a day) out of your week and enjoy time together doing activities as a family.  These activities should be fun and not tedious, something that can get wrapped up in 2-3 hours.

Here are some more resources for you to consider.

 Celebrating the 3rd Millennium:

Well, we've celebrated the end of the 2nd Millennium (twice now), so why not continue to celebrate the 3rd millennium.   Here's some ideas:

  • Do something High-tech.
  • Have a party with sci-fi movies from the 1950s (or earlier) and snicker at how 'the future' was really supposed to look.  Some of it is absolutely hilarious.  Here are some classics:
    1. Just Imagine (1930)
    2. Things to Come (1936)
    3. Destination Moon (1950)

 Celebrating a Century of Progress:

  • Visit museums that illustrate the progress of the world over the last century.  Progress in things like transportation, communications, exploration and the like.  Discuss our progress with you family and children and show them how far we've come in the last 100 years.  It's easy, inexpensive, fun and stimulating.  It may even be close to home!  Here's a listing of good places to start listing museums by country.  This is also some good discussion around the dinner table!
